To start making money directly through YouTube you need to be part of the YouTube Partner Program. The YouTube Partner Program is the program that allows channels that are in good standing to participate in receiving ad revenue that means ads will actually appear on your videos and you will get a percentage of that money that advertisers are paying to YouTube.

How to join the Youtube partner program

The processes even look like so first off the process in order to become part of the YouTube Partner. Program you need to have at least 1000 subscribers and also 4,000 watch hours over the last 12 months that means people need to have watched your content for 4,000 hours over the 12-month period looking back from any point in time it is a rolling requirement so it's not on a very specific date it is simply if you stop now and look back how many watch hours has your the channel received in the past 12 months.

How much time did I spend on the channel?

I've got 46 videos currently on the channel. With the exception of 4-5-6 of them, the rest were well researched, prepared, shot, edited, prepared the thumbnails, subtitles, researched the tags, etc. On average, I spend about 10 to 15 hours per video, sometimes up to 20 hours, meaning that I've spent between 400 to 600 hours just on the videos although thinking about it now, it seems much, much longer. In addition to that, I've spent most evenings promoting the channel on different social media websites, forums, etc. so add on about 200-400 hours of promotion on top of that, too. Essentially, I've spent somewhere between 600 to 1,000 hours.

Now, I tell my experience in YoTube.

The only equipment that I bought for this endeavor was a microphone for about £20. However, I also got a Canva subscription (£10.99 per month) and TubeBuddy (£4.50 per month). Overall, this amounts to about £100 spent so far.

How long did the monetization application take?

For me, it took just under 30 hours. I was eligible for it on Sunday morning. I agreed to the terms and conditions and linked up to my Google AdSense account around 11 am. At 4 pm on Monday, I got the email that I have been accepted!.

Some of the lessons learned

My biggest drivers of traffic are videos covering a couple of Chinese companies (I talk about stocks and finance) and I stumbled on them completely accidentally. When I saw there was a lot of interest in the topic, I started dishing out videos on them every other week/every month and they've accounted for probably 10% of all of my views so far, maybe a bit more even. The lesson here is you gotta try out different topics until you see which ones bring the most traffic. Some of the best topics are oversaturated, some of the boring ones are completely missed out. You just need to spend some time exploring them! IMO, there's no point spending up to 20 hours making a video that will generate less than 20 hours of watch time.

You need to find social media or websites where you can promote your stuff. Having a Twitter / Facebook / Instagram following will help massively, but trying to build a following from the scratch across all the different platforms. When initially starting can quickly lead to burning yourself out without bringing much traffic to your channel. If you want an Instagram page, focus on Instagram. If you want a YouTube channel, focus on YouTube. People don't tend to follow promotional accounts so if you're just doing that on Insta / Twitter / Facebook, chances are you won't build a following there and only a tiny amount of traffic will come to YouTube.

I initially spent way too much time perfecting my videos and sound editing, but I have recently realized it adds too much editing time and stress without providing much value. YouTube, by and large, is not about perfect content, but it's about good content. Try to focus on what brings the most value to your viewers. That way, you'll be able to get the best results in the shortest amount of time.

Connect with other YouTube creators in the same niche as you. Put out a video, search for your keyword, filter to only see videos from the last day/week/month, and look for other people who have put out similar videos. Engage with them, help them out and they'll return the favour! YouTube is a community after all so be a part of that community :)

I hope you find this useful!.
